Spotify Playlist: WEGO Ready with The Garrys

Catch Saskatoon-based “doom-wop” band The Garrys at WEGO on August 27! Our all-ages festival of art, music, dance and more is free to attend and happening rain or shine from 10 AM-4 PM.

Get into the groove beforehand with our playlist of The Garrys’ top picks. Here’s how they describe it:

“This playlist is a collection of songs that are having a big influence on us these days, songs we’ve been dying to learn, as well as a few of our own original songs that encompass the type of music that we like to write and play. Many of these songs are sure to be heard when on the road in our band van (affectionately named Vannie Lennox) and are road-trip necessities that you can sing or air-drum along to. Other songs chosen have a vocal harmony, guitar tone, bass line or moody-broken-heart vibe that we are obsessed with.

The artists featured on this playlist have inspired our own songwriting and helped to stretch us creatively in many different ways. We hope that by listening you can hear some of the music that inspires us!”

The Garrys will perform on the Remai Modern West Patio at 12:30 and 3:30 PM. They’re also sharing the stage with Donny Parenteau, Mattmac and Al Simmons! Check out the full WEGO schedule and plan for a fun-filled day at the museum!

About the Artist

The Garrys are a band of siblings from the coldest part of the landlocked Canadian prairies. Formed in the spring of 2015, The Garrys use layered 3-part blood harmonies, hazy sun-bleached melodies, classic lo-fi guitar tones, and syncopated surf beats to create a unique “doom-wop” sound, dripping with dark nostalgia and touched by psychedelic dread. Their music is likely to leave you with an urge to do the Watusi, bittersweet thoughts about slow-dancing with your middle school crush, or a nagging feeling that it’s not quite safe to go back into the water.
